Balkan U16 Boys & Girls Championship - Semi-Final
Cyprus U16, lost today. But with not without fighting. Down in numbers we had to play Maximos our second goalkeeper out in the field and all injured players. Costa played an entire match with his pulled hamstring, not letting up at any moment.

Bulgaria, well they had a full team, bench and an association supporting them. Yet only managed to score 4 goals. Had we had our initial team, even with the injuries, without a doubt the Cyprus U16 would have triumphed again.

So final score:

Cyprus 0 - Bulgaria 4, at half time the score was 0-3, so Bulgaria only managed to score a single goal in the second half. To me the Cyprus U16 were the winners and Bulgaria losers. To only manage 4 goals in a full managed against 9 players, in utterly useless.

Man of the Match - Costas Loizou
Balkan U16 Boys & Girls Championship - 3rd Match
Cyprus U16, came up with yet another win. This has being was on the best fought matches I've seen in a while (not being biased ;-)). Both teams were equally poised and well prepared. But is was our boys that had more determination, belief and discipline, with these they managed to achieve victory for Cyprus.

Match of the Match - George Michael
Goal Scorer - Demetris Stylianou

On the 26th June they plan in the first Semi-Final of the tournament Cyprus - Bulgaria. The match start at 13h00.

Balkan U16 Boys & Girls Championship - 2nd Match
Cyprus U16, came up with another win. Even though this wasn't an official match is was yet just another positive result for the team. To prepare them for the next match against Romania on 25 June at 13h00.

Cyprus 3 - Officials 2
Balkan U16 Boys & Girls Championship - 1st Match
Cyprus U16, made history today by achieving the first ever victory in international hockey for Cyprus, this was done with team work and togetherness.
With total of eight different goal scores and zero goals conceded. With the final score of their first U16 international match was Cyprus 17 FYROM 0.
Although it has to be said the FYROM team was younger and definitely not as prepared as our boys. It does go to show the commitment they have given to hockey,
over the last couple of months/years is worthwhile for Hockey.

We now look forward to the next match official match on Friday, against Romania, in the meantime the team will be playing a friendly match against the
umpires and veteran's tomorrow. The team is really enjoying themselves so far and this latest result has only added to that enjoyment.

Goal Scores are as follows:
Andreas Lazarides (2)
Antonis Efthymiou (4) - Man of the Match
George Michael (4)
Demetris Stylianou (3)
Ioannis Makris (1)
Orestis Telemachou (2)
Christodoulos Karakannas (1)

We are working on uploading some video, photos have being added in the photo gallery, so that you can also enjoy the successes of the team.

New Season, new plans and new support
The hockey season of 2009/2010 plans to be even more successful than that of previous years.

Following the Annual General Meeting held on September 3rd 2009, we can update you on the following:

In the previous season we only had two hockey teams ESOBGA and Hocks/Lions, due to insufficient numbers, because of various reasons. However, this is set to change, we will be having three  teams this season (ESOBGA, Lions and Hocks). this is the first sign that the hockey academy is working and that the youngsters are more eager to play club hockey. We only hope that the seniors are still as excited about the sport as previous seasons.

Teams will be selected this week, please support your team and club. An email will be sent to everyone notifying them of the relevant information.

Ladies hockey, it has been decide that the first Sunday of every month a Ladies hockey match will take place. If there are insufficient Ladies to complete a team. Then the numbers will be made up using players either from the Youth Academy or English School. No senior men are to play, this is in order to give the Ladies and youngsters that are not part of a club yet and opportunity to play hockey matches. Please support this initiative and we need to develop Ladies hockey in Cyprus.
